Beekeeping: A Perfect Home Business
Most people when looking for a good home business, most of the time over look the beekeeping option. Apiculture is a good business model, because it is a low cost business, the product is needed, and is environmentally friendly. It’s a great way to make extra money for your family, on the other hand producing your own honey, wax and other useful products.
- What you need to start your Beekeeping Business
You really don’t need a lot to start this type of business. Not that much space is needed as well, because hives can even be kept in a small garden or even in a rooftop garden. But they should be kept close to plants that produce nectar, like meadow flowers, or clover. Oilseed rape is also liked by bees, so if you are in an area where that is grown, starting a beekeeping business would be a good idea.
Now this doesn’t mean it has to be right next door, because bees travel as many as four miles to get their nectar. Now, once you have decided where to have your bees, you need to choose the type of hive you want. The Langstroth hive is more popular to beekeepers, so called because it was the name of the inventor. This is the wooden box with frames of wax that come in the honeycomb pattern.
- Start by Learning
When managing a hive, you should manage it in such a way that the honey production is kept at a maximum. It does take some knowledge and skill, and anyone who is thinking about starting a beekeeping business, needs to learn, maybe not everything about beekeeping, only the basics. If you are seriously thinking about this new enterprise, then you should pick up a few books on the subject, and if possible join a local beekeepers association. You will learn a lot from being around other beekeepers.
- The Needed Tools
One good thing about beekeeping is that you don’t need a lot of tools, especially if managing around 2 hives. You will need a hive tool, which helps you in opening the hive to inspect it. You will need the hive and the bees. The other equipment needed is beekeeping gear and the smoker box. The smoke box calms the bees, and when you puff some smoke into the hive it calms the bees, and lets you inspect better.
- Getting Your Bee Colony
The easiest way to get your bee hive is to buy a ready made colony, which is bought from beekeeping suppliers. If this way doesn’t appeal to you, then you might consider a nucleus, which consists of a queen with workers that come from another colony. You can place them in your hive and then feed them with sugar water until they are established, and ready to find their own nector to feed on.
Getting a colony is the 3rd way which is the most dangerous and involves getting a swarm. You have to get a swarm which has a queen bee and lots of workers. You will find these in trees. You do this by cutting the branch and make the bees fall into your box. Take your box to the hive and lay a sheet on the ground. Then just shake the bees so thy get out of your box onto the sheet and then they will find the way to your hive.

Amkey’s products, while useful for a healthy existence, may be difficult to sell; firstly because they are expensive and secondly because they are health based. It’s a general belief that such products are consumed only when people have health problems.Amkey’s products are also relatively expensive making them tougher to promote.
In spite of all this, there’s good potential to sell Amkey products because of their quality and worth. The traditional network marketing routine of calling, meeting and convincing potential customers is not likely to bring in much profit. Beekeeping Businesses Owned by Families
A number of people don’t just go in beekeeping it’s something they were raised and brought up in. Most companies that deal with beekeeping and providing beekeeping supplies are family owned. Dadant and Sons, a company based out of Hamilton, IL has been in the business of providing beekeeping equipment and has been around for many years.
They sell everything from beekeeping attire from the head to the torso, and even full body suits with headwear. They also sell journals that are published about beekeeping and also selling copies from the archives as well.
They have a large selection of books that give you a lesson on beekeeping to candle making since many beekeepers also not only collect and sell honey, but make candles as well out of the beeswax. A lot of family owned beekeepers usually produce the honey and beeswax items on their farms and sell to local stores. Usually it’s a family business that has been a long-standing tradition.
Most beekeeping families have been at this for several generations so it’s not a new thing many families get into with this. A lot of children grow up making this into their livelihood since its how their ancestors made their living. Many companies now are in fact commercially owned since so many family-owned businesses are forced out because of the rising cost of running a business and many mom and pop places that were not technologically advanced were the ones who suffered because those who had the resources to invest in websites and tools needed to stay ahead in the business were the ones who made the transition into the 21st century with their businesses.
This was a business that began as a simple hobby and just a small way to make extra money on the side or to just have something extra for the dinner table since honey was super popular to be put on hot biscuits and toast for dinner and breakfast since it was used as marmalade.
At the time honey wasn’t a big resource since people used sugar and molasses to use on their food, but the moment honey was discovered to be cheap and inexpensive to make that was the time beekeeping was popular and a business to make profits for many families in places where beekeeping is practiced.
As a result for this discovery of honey becoming inexpensive, which became what beekeeping has developed into today. The only issues was in this day and age more pesticides was being used and the problems with having to treat much of the honey that was being made which left a lot of people wondering how safe it was to consume such a product.
It was a concern since you have the organic food movement that totally goes against the use of pesticides and any means to chemically alter or treat food or livestock used for food products. Today you have family owned companies at the commercial level that produce honey products and beeswax used in cosmetics and candle making.
Guide to Successful Beekeeping as a Hobby or Business
If you sure are ready to start beekeeping as a hobby, business, or study, then you will have thought about the needed hives and the equipment, which means your next step is to get your bees, which to some people is confusing, because they are lots of ways to get them.
-Purchase a Colony-
Colonies can be purchased from local beekeepers or beekeeping product suppliers. If you are a real beginner, this maybe the ideal way to getting your honey bees, although it is also the most expensive way. The colony will contain a queen, workers, drones, and frames of honeycomb with brood. Some even contain honey to feed the bees.
-Purchasing a Nucleus-
When you purchase a hive nucleus, you are given a queen and a few frames of worker bees with a small foundation. You will be given 5 frames, which is a good start for your hive, but is a bit slower than if you purchase the whole colony.
-The Package-
This can also be purchased from a local beekeeper or breeder. It will have a queen and about three pounds of worker bees only. This means you will need to feed the bees with some type of syrup until they feel comfortable to work for themselves.
-The Swarm-
This is probably the most economical way of getting your bees, but is very risky, and very hard. This method requires you to get your very own swarm. As a beginner this is not the best option because you don’t really know how they will react, or whether they have been Africanized, or not. Some swarms do carry diseases, or even mites, and can course problems for a beginner.
-When Should You Acquire Your Bees?-
April or May is the right time to start your hive. If you will consider purchasing them, order them in advice, to be delivered in the spring. When you buy bees later than June, then you risk them not having enough time to make enough honey for their winter and thus surviving. This meaning that the bees will be lost and the money you invested as well.
-The Money Needed-
Once you get used to beekeeping then you need to do your research as to the cost of bees. This way you can prepare a budget. Generally speaking your start up may run from about $500.00 to over $1,000.00 depending on the bees you buy and the hives you purchase.
-What to Expect?-
You shouldn’t expect to make your money back on that first year’s investment. It is going to take a while for a colony to get big and to build up its strength, and even then not every beekeeper is successful in a year. Sometimes it maybe natural, so don’t be afraid in starting all over again, if you lose the bees. You just have to chuck it up to a learning experience.
Beginners Guide to Beekeeping for Business or Hobby
Some specific principles need to be known when you start a new honey bee keeping project either for business or as a hobby. These are the principles that will let you get the highest profit out of your bee project. The principles of how to raise honeybees are structured around the bees themselves.
1. The first critical point in your project in choosing the bees, research has to be done on the different type of bees and the right type of bees good for your area. The best way to do this is to ask the local beekeepers in your area. They can tell you through their experience which type is right for you.
2. You put your bees in the hive and honey is formed there as well. Choosing the hive depends on the type of bees, the area you live, the amount of time you are willing to invest and the money you are willing to spend.
Generally bee hives are made from specific types of wood like cedar wood and pine wood; both of these types have a distinct smell, especially cedar wood which can impact the honey aroma. To choose the hive type depends on your experience on beekeeping, when starting out on beekeeping you may choose a hive that needs less maintenance even if it will cost them more.
3. The location of your hive is very important; it should be in an open area but away from strong air drafts. You should also have near by green fields so bees get their nector. If plantations are located between the hives then you must make sure that the plant insecticides used in the area will not harm your bees.
Wealth Masters International & It’s Definition of Wealth
A few years ago I heard a story of a man who died at the age of fifty-three and at his funeral there were over 300 people that gathered in memorial. This man had been a quadriplegic in a wheelchair with only one arm and no hands after being in a car accident at the age of twenty.
After the car accident this man decided that wealth to him meant friendships. He did everything in his power to have and to keep as many good friends as possible. He spent day in and day out learning the likes and dislikes of his friends and did anything to keep his friendships striving.
I too, decided to model my philosophy after this man, by defining my wealth and happiness in the same way he did. In attaching myself to Wealth Masters International, I found a vehicle with which to help others find success and achieve their dreams in helping them build home based businesses.
WMI’s mission is to teach regular folks about the ways of the wealthy, to empower them. They show people that wealth is not about the sum of the money in your bank account, but about the choices you make in the use of the capital you have and how what you do adds value to a society.
The Wealth Masters & Jay Kubassek taught me fundamental principles of debt elimination, tax reduction, cash flow multiplication, asset protection, investment management and how to live on less than I made. It also taught me that after I earned money by following their steps I should give back to help the world.
These are the main reasons I work with Carbon Copy Pro. It is not only a way for me to make money but a way for others to succeed and to learn from our communities’ strengths and weaknesses in order to benefit ourselves and the world.
The Importance of the 4 Ps of Marketing: Example of a Marketing Mix Program
Your marketing plan needs to include a strong marketing mix program (the 4 Ps of marketing). Use this example of a marketing mix to better understand how to develop the most important mix elements. To create the best marketing mix program, learn how to balance and develop product or service strategies, the marketing mix promotion, the price, the place (or distribution).
Marketing planning is important to your business. Without a plan you will be challenged to stay focused on your goals. With a well developed marketing plan, you will have a direction to follow and measures in place to help you achieve your goals. Each business needs to build objectives, strategies, and plans that are specific to their own business and their markets. A definition of marketing strategy for your business will help you focus on what’s most important to your business; your marketing planning will help you to deliver it.
The following example of a marketing mix focuses on a Computer Technology company’s plan. The business profile for the company is: $2 million in annual sales; 14 employees (most of them long-term with an average of 10 years with the company); the market segment is business-to-business. The marketing plan objectives are to maintain, and grow, existing customer sales and to gain new business. The company’s target is to grow sales by 10 percent a year of a three year plan.
The first requirement in your marketing mix is to define the company’s services. For example, the company offers a software evaluation service for customers who are reviewing new software options. The company also provides technical support – 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. It performs computer security reviews and audits. It provides a range of service agreements (1 hour response, 4 hour response or 24 hour response). The company conducts back-up services both on- and off-site. Finally, the company offers custom designed software support packages.
Once the services are defined, you need to develop a benefits list that focuses on the value of each of the specific services; existing and potential customers need a clear understanding of the value proposition. For example, the benefits list could demonstrate the company’s market leadership in business continuity efforts after a disaster (such as floods, power outages, commercial crimes, and more). It could focus on the strength of long-term employees with both specialist and generalist skills in multi-platforms. It could also focus on the advantages of outsourcing computer support compared to carrying in-house staff.
Then focus on what makes the business different from the competition; what is unique about the services offered? Determine the key differentiation points. Then develop the positioning of the service provided; is diversification the right strategy, or niche, or low cost, or high value? The positioning strategy needs to be clearly defined. Calculate financial benefits for the advantages and develop them as solutions to the customers’ issues. For example, the company’s success rate in negotiating value added upgrades and customization to new software application purchases. There is a tangible dollar value to that success; communicate it to customers.
In this industry, an effective pricing strategy is to bundle price services. This involves bundling a number of services together for an all-in-one price. For example, a services bundle might include services such as daily back-ups offsite; regular maintenance and upgrades of existing software versions; remote monitoring of email software; and more. The pricing package needs to include pricing comparisons for customers to review and compare (to in-house staff costs or to hire competitive companies to do the same work).
As another element of marketing mix, promotion efforts are focused on the sales approach. Determine which approach, or combination of approaches, works best and is most effective: personal selling (face to face and/or voice to voice); advertising, public relations, referral programs, social media, online marketing, direct email marketing, and more. For example, during the last six months the media has been reporting that companies are laying off and cutting staff. Track media reports and look for companies that have cut technical support departments. Then focus a promotional program to address the technical support shortages at those companies. Often, computer technology companies run lean sales organizations; sub-contract or hire professional marketing and sales specialists to develop specific sales and promotions tactics and strategies.
The last element of marketing mix is place or distribution. Place is focused on delivery of the product or service to the market; whether the product or service is sold in a local store, online, through distributors, directly through business-to-business efforts and other methods. For example, if you’re in the retail sector, this marketing mix element is about the store location (online or physical). For this computer technology business, reaching their clients is through both in-person service calls and remotely accessed service. Place also plays a role in how you are found by customers; it is as much related to promotional strategy as it is to physical location. For a service company, place or distribution is most often delivered directly from the company to its customers.
Create a marketing plan that focuses on the 4 Ps of marketing; and use it to focus on product, price, promotion and place. An example of a marketing mix (like this one) can be used as a template for building your own mix program, strategies, objectives and plan. Then, act on the plan.
What Are Your Income Alternatives?
When things are going along nicely and the economy seems as strong and robust as ever, few of us think about what could go wrong. This is evidenced by the historically low rate of savings and by what some would consider the devil may care attitude towards tomorrow. Few will forget what happened in 2007 through 2009, however as one of the worst recessions ever took its toll. All of a sudden, people started to think of income alternatives should they be unlucky to lose their job.
Have you ever heard about saving for a rainy day? Most people had, but didn’t, but when the great recession arrived and the unemployment rate more than doubled, this was a stark reminder that they may have no income alternatives. What would happen if they were unable to pay their rent or mortgage or the other family commitments as they had no alternative plans. Now, suddenly it was time to look into those alternatives.
With very few exceptions, income alternatives are available for everyone. It may take the dramatic shock of losing a job or having hours cut back, but after the initial panic most people begin to realize that they do have options available to them. Now is the time to explore these, to itemize all your skills and assets and come up with a plan. You would be surprised.
If you are suddenly faced with a money crunch, take time to let your mind wander back to your school or college days. Remember what you used to be good at back then. You might’ve been a good writer or have been good at organizing things. What about sports – were you any good at a particular type? When analyzing income alternatives today, try and use some of those skills to best effect.
If you are a good writer, then you have an almost unlimited number of options available to you on the Internet. If you’re able to write on a variety of subjects, there are always people, companies and organizations looking for your work. You could hook up with a news organization or a website and be called upon to provide regular and reliable material. Webmasters are always looking for content for their sites from those who are able to write well. This could be one of your primary income alternatives.
Internet marketing involves creating well-thought-out and presented website and blog sites. People monetize these sites by creating information that people need and by offering solutions to meet their problems. This could be a suggestion for you as you can either sell your own services or products or link, as an affiliate, to those companies who will.
If you like the idea of freelancing when it comes to income alternatives, check out the online sites such as elance.com, odesk.com, rentacoder.com and others. These sites bring together people who have talents in one area or another with those who are looking for such talents. They have been highly successful and are well organized and regimented. This is a great place for you to look for work.
As you are looking for income alternatives, make sure that you cut down on all nonessential spending, consolidate as much as you can and get rid of all those things that you can find which you do not use any more. You will be surprised what you are hanging onto which would be of value to someone else.
Lots Of Things You Need To Know If You Are A Beginner In Scrap Booking
Getting started as a beginner in scrap booking is not that hard, and does not take the huge amount of creative talent that a lot of people think it does. Some people are put off trying to start a scrap book, but if you have tons of photos lying around the house that you want to save and put in some sort of order with a few fancy touches and a little journaling to embellish the photos and tell the story, then creating a scrapbook is just the ticket.
To start as a beginner in scrap booking, you need to separate the photos you want to save into categories so that you have a chronological basis to work with. Break the photos down by decades, or years; or by themes, and individuals or occasions. That way you can tell a mini but complete story on every page of the scrapbook. Dating and separating the photos as you take them is the best way, because then you don’t have to rely on your sometimes faulty memory for help.
A necessary factor when you are just starting out as a beginner in scrap booking, is to have a picture of what the page will look like in your mind’s eye when it is finished before you start working on it. Just that simple fact will save you hours of frustration because you can let the story you are creating on the page just flow, and you will know what direction you are working toward and have a pretty good idea of how to get there. You need to begin with the photo or the piece of memorabilia that you want to work around that will become the central focus of the page and place it in the central focal point and start to put other photos or clippings or whatever you have, around it. Move and rearrange and shuffle the pieces until you find a balance that feels right to you before you start gluing pieces down. As the page is coming together and feeling balanced while telling your story, you can then write little bits of information around the photos and what all, just to convey some emotion and info about what the photos mean.
One of the hardest parts of being a beginner in scrap booking, is to work with colors. Colors should be chosen to complement the colors that already exist in the photos without overwhelming them and drowning out the visual effect of the photo itself. Don’t use too many colors because then you have a “noisy” page and the overall effect is to drown out the impact of the central photo and the emotion it could convey. In this case, less is more; and the more focused you can keep your color palette, the more positive the end results will be.
A very effective technique that is used in scrap booking to bring out the details and colors in photos, is called matting; and another called cropping gets rid of the unwanted details in a photo that do nothing but take up space and draw attention away from the focal point of the photo. When you are a beginner in scrap booking and you are trying to learn all the ways to make your scrapbook pages speak out to the person(s) looking at the pages you have put together, you will want to get well informed on how to mat and/or crop a photo for maximum effect. Mainly, cropping is used to cut away all the parts of the photo that detract from the main focus of that photo and dilute the message that the photo is telling. Sometimes the photo is just too big and you don’t need all the extraneous material in the background-such as a snap of a deer drinking at a pond with miles of trees and clouds in the background; the deer is what you want to focus on, so cut away most of the forest surrounding him because it is just taking up space and is not needed. And then the matting technique is using complementary colored paper or foil or lace (whatever your heart desires); to put beneath the photo to make it stand out away from the page it’s pasted on. Use a color that brings out the colors in the photo and doesn’t clash with it for maximum effect.
Everyone; whether a beginner in scrap booking or a seasoned scrap booker; needs a goodly amount of essential supplies to work with. You should make sure you have an acid free album and a supply of album refills; acid free printed papers; adhesive or glue; straight cut scissors; card stock; and black ink pens for journaling on the pages with whatever comments or verses you want to add to accentuate the pages. That would constitute your basic supplies; from there you can go as wild as you want and get radical with bright glittery papers for matting; sequins or glitter; gold and silver or copper pens; embossed papers; rubber stamping equipment——just let your imagination run wild and you will be amazed at how cool the final product will look when you put your heart into it.
There’s nothing stopping you from becoming a beginner in scrap booking except your own feelings of insecurity—–but take another look at those piles of photos just crying out to be put on display for all to see and enjoy, and a few more years down the road, if you don’t get busy and start putting them into a scrapbook, you will be kicking yourself for not getting on the ball and doing it. Putting together a scrapbook is nothing but pure fun; and if you follow the guidelines and your own little flow of creativity, you can pull it off and create a storytelling means that will impress your family and friends and make you quite satisfied with a job well done.
