When you purchase a hive nucleus, you are given a queen and a few frames of worker bees with a small foundation. You will be given 5 frames, which is a good start for your hive, but is a bit slower than if you purchase the whole colony.

-The Package-

This can also be purchased from a local beekeeper or breeder. It will have a queen and about three pounds of worker bees only. This means you will need to feed the bees with some type of syrup until they feel comfortable to work for themselves.

-The Swarm-

This is probably the most economical way of getting your bees, but is very risky, and very hard. This method requires you to get your very own swarm. As a beginner this is not the best option because you don’t really know how they will react, or whether they have been Africanized, or not. Some swarms do carry diseases, or even mites, and can course problems for a beginner.

-When Should You Acquire Your Bees?-

April or May is the right time to start your hive. If you will consider purchasing them, order them in advice, to be delivered in the spring. When you buy bees later than June, then you risk them not having enough time to make enough honey for their winter and thus surviving. This meaning that the bees will be lost and the money you invested as well.

-The Money Needed-

Once you get used to beekeeping then you need to do your research as to the cost of bees. This way you can prepare a budget. Generally speaking your start up may run from about $500.00 to over $1,000.00 depending on the bees you buy and the hives you purchase.

3. The location of your hive is very important; it should be in an open area but away from strong air drafts. You should also have near by green fields so bees get their nector. If plantations are located between the hives then you must make sure that the plant insecticides used in the area will not harm your bees.

The first requirement in your marketing mix is to define the company’s services. For example, the company offers a software evaluation service for customers who are reviewing new software options. The company also provides technical support – 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. It performs computer security reviews and audits. It provides a range of service agreements (1 hour response, 4 hour response or 24 hour response). The company conducts back-up services both on- and off-site. Finally, the company offers custom designed software support packages.

Once the services are defined, you need to develop a benefits list that focuses on the value of each of the specific services; existing and potential customers need a clear understanding of the value proposition. For example, the benefits list could demonstrate the company’s market leadership in business continuity efforts after a disaster (such as floods, power outages, commercial crimes, and more). It could focus on the strength of long-term employees with both specialist and generalist skills in multi-platforms. It could also focus on the advantages of outsourcing computer support compared to carrying in-house staff.

Then focus on what makes the business different from the competition; what is unique about the services offered? Determine the key differentiation points. Then develop the positioning of the service provided; is diversification the right strategy, or niche, or low cost, or high value? The positioning strategy needs to be clearly defined. Calculate financial benefits for the advantages and develop them as solutions to the customers’ issues. For example, the company’s success rate in negotiating value added upgrades and customization to new software application purchases. There is a tangible dollar value to that success; communicate it to customers.

In this industry, an effective pricing strategy is to bundle price services. This involves bundling a number of services together for an all-in-one price. For example, a services bundle might include services such as daily back-ups offsite; regular maintenance and upgrades of existing software versions; remote monitoring of email software; and more. The pricing package needs to include pricing comparisons for customers to review and compare (to in-house staff costs or to hire competitive companies to do the same work).

As another element of marketing mix, promotion efforts are focused on the sales approach. Determine which approach, or combination of approaches, works best and is most effective: personal selling (face to face and/or voice to voice); advertising, public relations, referral programs, social media, online marketing, direct email marketing, and more. For example, during the last six months the media has been reporting that companies are laying off and cutting staff. Track media reports and look for companies that have cut technical support departments. Then focus a promotional program to address the technical support shortages at those companies. Often, computer technology companies run lean sales organizations; sub-contract or hire professional marketing and sales specialists to develop specific sales and promotions tactics and strategies.

The last element of marketing mix is place or distribution. Place is focused on delivery of the product or service to the market; whether the product or service is sold in a local store, online, through distributors, directly through business-to-business efforts and other methods. For example, if you’re in the retail sector, this marketing mix element is about the store location (online or physical). For this computer technology business, reaching their clients is through both in-person service calls and remotely accessed service. Place also plays a role in how you are found by customers; it is as much related to promotional strategy as it is to physical location. For a service company, place or distribution is most often delivered directly from the company to its customers.

Create a marketing plan that focuses on the 4 Ps of marketing; and use it to focus on product, price, promotion and place. An example of a marketing mix (like this one) can be used as a template for building your own mix program, strategies, objectives and plan. Then, act on the plan.

Getting started as a beginner in scrap booking is not that hard, and does not take the huge amount of creative talent that a lot of people think it does. Some people are put off trying to start a scrap book, but if you have tons of photos lying around the house that you want to save and put in some sort of order with a few fancy touches and a little journaling to embellish the photos and tell the story, then creating a scrapbook is just the ticket.

To start as a beginner in scrap booking, you need to separate the photos you want to save into categories so that you have a chronological basis to work with. Break the photos down by decades, or years; or by themes, and individuals or occasions. That way you can tell a mini but complete story on every page of the scrapbook. Dating and separating the photos as you take them is the best way, because then you don’t have to rely on your sometimes faulty memory for help.

A necessary factor when you are just starting out as a beginner in scrap booking, is to have a picture of what the page will look like in your mind’s eye when it is finished before you start working on it. Just that simple fact will save you hours of frustration because you can let the story you are creating on the page just flow, and you will know what direction you are working toward and have a pretty good idea of how to get there. You need to begin with the photo or the piece of memorabilia that you want to work around that will become the central focus of the page and place it in the central focal point and start to put other photos or clippings or whatever you have, around it. Move and rearrange and shuffle the pieces until you find a balance that feels right to you before you start gluing pieces down. As the page is coming together and feeling balanced while telling your story, you can then write little bits of information around the photos and what all, just to convey some emotion and info about what the photos mean.

One of the hardest parts of being a beginner in scrap booking, is to work with colors. Colors should be chosen to complement the colors that already exist in the photos without overwhelming them and drowning out the visual effect of the photo itself. Don’t use too many colors because then you have a “noisy” page and the overall effect is to drown out the impact of the central photo and the emotion it could convey. In this case, less is more; and the more focused you can keep your color palette, the more positive the end results will be.

A very effective technique that is used in scrap booking to bring out the details and colors in photos, is called matting; and another called cropping gets rid of the unwanted details in a photo that do nothing but take up space and draw attention away from the focal point of the photo. When you are a beginner in scrap booking and you are trying to learn all the ways to make your scrapbook pages speak out to the person(s) looking at the pages you have put together, you will want to get well informed on how to mat and/or crop a photo for maximum effect. Mainly, cropping is used to cut away all the parts of the photo that detract from the main focus of that photo and dilute the message that the photo is telling. Sometimes the photo is just too big and you don’t need all the extraneous material in the background-such as a snap of a deer drinking at a pond with miles of trees and clouds in the background; the deer is what you want to focus on, so cut away most of the forest surrounding him because it is just taking up space and is not needed. And then the matting technique is using complementary colored paper or foil or lace (whatever your heart desires); to put beneath the photo to make it stand out away from the page it’s pasted on. Use a color that brings out the colors in the photo and doesn’t clash with it for maximum effect.

Everyone; whether a beginner in scrap booking or a seasoned scrap booker; needs a goodly amount of essential supplies to work with. You should make sure you have an acid free album and a supply of album refills; acid free printed papers; adhesive or glue; straight cut scissors; card stock; and black ink pens for journaling on the pages with whatever comments or verses you want to add to accentuate the pages. That would constitute your basic supplies; from there you can go as wild as you want and get radical with bright glittery papers for matting; sequins or glitter; gold and silver or copper pens; embossed papers; rubber stamping equipment——just let your imagination run wild and you will be amazed at how cool the final product will look when you put your heart into it.

There’s nothing stopping you from becoming a beginner in scrap booking except your own feelings of insecurity—–but take another look at those piles of photos just crying out to be put on display for all to see and enjoy, and a few more years down the road, if you don’t get busy and start putting them into a scrapbook, you will be kicking yourself for not getting on the ball and doing it. Putting together a scrapbook is nothing but pure fun; and if you follow the guidelines and your own little flow of creativity, you can pull it off and create a storytelling means that will impress your family and friends and make you quite satisfied with a job well done.
